Let’s see what he had to say:
Dr Landrum explaining the benefits of regenerative medicine.
1. How did you arrive at your current role?
Where should I begin? I began my education at Purdue University majoring in pre-medicine, following graduation I studied at University of Chicago to earn my Doctor of Medicine. Once I had these degrees under my belt, I completed my first internship in internal medicine at Loyola where I rotated between cardiology, the pulmonary heart transplant unit, bone marrow transplant unit and the pain clinic. After a year with Loyola, I moved to Boston to complete my residency in anesthesiology at Harvard which allowed me to gain exposure to perioperative pain management and interventional pain therapies. My residency is where I really developed my specialty in pain management which allowed me to go on to complete my fellowship at Cornell.
Twelve years of education later, I started my career at a clinic in Elkhart as an interventionalist pain physician in a multidisciplinary environment. During my time there, I decided to obtain my MBA to open my own practice. In 2017, I opened Cutting Edge with the focus on regenerative and integrative pain therapies.
2. What does your average day look like?
Operating a healthcare practice during a pandemic has really shifted my typical day to day duties. Typically my day will consist of seeing a blend of traditional pain and regenerative pain patients in person or via telemedicine video conferencing. The appointments are tailored to each patient’s schedule and specific needs to ensure that I am offering the most innovative diagnostic and interventional pain management techniques for them. My goal is to relieve each patient’s pain in a timely manner so that they can return to work and back to living their everyday life.
3. What is the greatest challenge you face in today’s marketplace?
When it comes to regenerative and integrative pain management, not many people know what it is. So my biggest challenge is educating and connecting with patients that need and could benefit from our services.
Because of COVID, Dr Landrum sees and monitors many of his patients via telemedicine video conferencing.
4. How does sales and marketing fit into your role?
I think when it comes to healthcare, the most important part is forming a community. Sales and marketing allows us to utilize a business to consumer model in order to increase sustainability. Marketing has allowed Cutting Edge to become a more recognizable name which has brought me more opportunities to connect with individuals seeking pain relief.
5. What do you like to do for fun?
When I’m not at the office, I really enjoy travelling and learning more about new technology and smart home automation. I’m a big Chicago Bears fan. I know that they aren’t doing too well and despite their continued challenges, I still watch and hope for the best.
